Senior Structural Engineer

Steenhof Building Services Group (SBSG) is a multidisciplinary engineering and design firm servicing clients throughout Canada, the United States, China, and other international locations. With offices located in Orillia, Port Carling and North Bay, SBSG has a motivated team that delivers innovative, practical concepts that fulfill project needs and fit within the reality of our client’s budgets.

Our Orillia office is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer with appropriate qualifications to carry out the following responsibilities:

  • Provide project management, analysis, assessments and calculations, mentorship and site reviews for our firm
  • Perform assessments and structural feasibilities on building integrity, remedial approaches, and retrofits for structural solutions, prepare reports and designs based on findings/investigations
  • Conduct construction site reviews, ensure work is performed in accordance with original engineered specifications
  • Work closely with the management team, provide a high level of customer service to our clients while consistently providing solid structural details and analysis.
  • Prepare quotes and/or proposals for new projects
  • Manage and monitor projects through all phases
  • Mentor and assist in developing junior engineering staff
  • Establish and implement changes to increase efficiency, productivity, and overall profitability in the workplace


  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in structural design or the construction industry, including a variety of successfully managed projects
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario with a degree in Civil Engineering (Structural Major)
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation, by-laws and codes affecting residential development and commercial construction
  • Advanced understanding of engineering theories and principles
  • Ability to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner
  • Excellent time and project management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and structural analysis software (STADD, SAP 2000) as well as experience with Autodesk Revit
  • Strong knowledge of the OCB, OHSA and Construction Lien Acts
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning
