Modular Design Technologist

We are seeking a Modular Design Technologist with appropriate qualifications that is on a fast track career, desires to work in a great innovative firm and is interested in a challenging and rewarding environment.

This position provides building code, design and drafting to the Modular Team at SBSG. The candidate must be results-orientated and have the ability to effectively prioritize workflows and schedules while applying independent thinking.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Primary support to the Manager of Modular and Interior Design, providing technical and administrative assistance to the Modular/Interior Design department.
  • Assist in the preparation of business presentations and fee proposals.
  • Manage modular projects independently and advise the Manager on status when required.
  • Building Code analysis, preparation of technical reports and compliance alternatives.
  • Reviewing architectural renderings, proposals and drawings as directed by the Modular Manager.
  • Develop and prepare conceptual design drawings and sketches.
  • Examine drawings for conformity and provincial codes.
  • Periodically assist with on-site reviews, and implement collected information into drafting software.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants and municipal officials as required throughout the design and construction process.
  • Prepare and coordinate drafting details as required.
  • Attend modular and client meetings
  • Practice sound communication in all levels of the company.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Competent understanding of the Building Code (will be working in multiple provinces).
  • Highly ethical, responsible, and confidential approach to financial information.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), and Adobe.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit software.
  • Experience with Heat Loss and Energy Software is an asset, but not a requirement.
  • Knowledge of construction detailing for variety of building systems and types.
  • Exceptional organization, time management, verbal and written communication skills.

Education and Experience Required:

  • College, University or Technology diploma with architectural drawing, interior design, and space management emphasis, and/or equivalent work experience.
  • BCIN Small Buildings and Legal at a minimum.
  • 1 to 3 years in related job experience in building codes, construction and design.
